Hi. We've been ttc since 2004. Since that time, I've had 4 m/c and an anacephalic pregnancy that ended at 13 weeks. I have pcos and i'm 31 years old. Hubby is fine. I've had several hsg's, testing for clotting disorder, and a laparoscopy in which they found that i was born with my bladder and uterus was stuck together. I've tried naturally, clomid alone, clomid/follistim/ovidrel, follistim/ovidrel, and metformin. I've been with the same doctor since i've been trying. I was wondering what should i do now. My doctor says in vitro, but i think that i should get another opinion. Any advice? Thank you. |

Reply with quote | #2 | Thanks for the message. It is hard for me to give much advice without the details, especially since you have a complex situation. However, let me make a couple of points.
1) If you have PCOS, pregnancies can usually be achieved with appropriate ovulation induction. This can be difficult and may involve a trial and error approach. I prefer a pure follistim and ovidrel approach and add metformin if the fasting insulin is elevated.
2) IVF is helpful when pregnancies cannot be achieved by simpler means. You've had 5 pregnancies in 5 years - not bad. If you do IVF, you may want to consider PGD (i.e. genetic testing of the embryos with replacement of only normal ones). If the other methods are not working (i.e. follistim), then IVF becomes the only option.
Hope this helps. Blessings. __________________ Jeffrey L. Deaton, M.D.
