Reply with quote | #1 | Hi, my name is Christine. I am a mom of 2 beautiful girls ( 9 and 6). My husband and I are both 30 yrs old. However, my husband had a vasectomy five years ago. So, we are unable to have children the natural way.
We have been given three options. One, too bad so sad you already have two kids. Two, a vasectomy reversal which will cost $10,000 out of pocket. Reversal can take up to 24 months and might not even work. Three, ICSI (sperm retrieval). However, if we go the sperm retrieval route, we would have to do IVF.
So, we can spend $10,000 on a vasectomy reversal and pray it works and then get another vasectomy afterwards or we can pay $15,000 for IVF.
Also, I worry about the chances of the IVF implanting. I am fertile and have regular menstrual cycles. I can tell when I am ovulating. I am confident my eggs are fine and I hope my husband's sperm are fine. If they are, will this be a pretty easy procedure? Will I need all of those fertility drugs?
If anyone has ANY input, experience, suggestions, anything please post here.
Take care!

Thanks for the message. Most people in your situation would proceed with IVF using testicular sperm since it has a higher success rate, avoids surgery, and would not require a 2nd vasectomy after your children. This is especially true if his vasectomy was over 10 years ago. IVF is totally office based and would give a 60% or so success rate IF you have good egg quality (which I suspect you do). We work with a local urologist who can come to our office and extract sperm. Hope this helps. Call Kristy if you want to make an appointment. Blessings. __________________ Jeffrey L. Deaton, M.D.
